We offer a range of design & planning support to guide you through the complexities of conservation areas, Article 4 and Listed Building Consent.
Warwickshire has over 9,000 listed buildings and over 100 individual conservation areas. This rich history brings with it challenges of balancing modernisation (thermal efficiency, durability & security) of your windows and doors whilst being sympathetic to the historic building and conservation area.
Planning services
With over 20-years of experience ion listed buildings and conservation areas in Warwickshire, we can guide you through the process of upgrading windows and doors in period & historic properties.
1
Conservation Areas
If your building is in a conservation area, replacing windows and doors can usually be done without planning consent, provided the replacements are visually similar to the original . However, some rules across the 100+ conservation areas within Warwickshire differ and so we can guide you through this process.
2
Article 4
Individual properties with a conservation area can also be subject to an Article 4 Direction, which place additional restriction on what changes can be made without the need for planning permission. Often, changes to the external appearance are restricted and planning consent would required to change windows and doors. We can submit these applications on your behalf, making sure your project meets all regulations while preserving your building’s integrity.
3
Grade II Listed-buildings
If your building is listed, you don’t usually need consent for draughtproofing or renovating existing windows and doors, but you should always check with your local conservation officer. However, listed building consent is often required for changes such as adding new sashes in original frames or fully replacing windows, even if it’s like-for-like. We will guide you through every step to ensure compliance.
